Redwood Empire Devil’s Tower High Rye Bourbon

Redwood Empire Whiskey | 99 Proof | At Least 5 Years

Nose: A buttery, rye spice nose initially. After a sip, the nose becomes much sweeter with sweeter notes such as butterscotch and vanilla.

Palate: The palate is very grain forward with sweet corn snd vanilla/Butterscotch flavors. The mouthfeel is extremely disappointing for a bottle with an MSRP of around $90. But the flavor is extremely vibrant and satisfying… which is an odd combination.

Finish: The finish on the juice is remarkably delicious… long and strong peppercorn finish that lingers. Again, odd considering the thin mouthfeel.

Conclusion: I have never had a bad bottle of whiskey with “Redwood Empire” on the label… and that trend continues tonight. The nose is inviting, the palate is conflicting, but the finish is redeeming. All things considered, I love this whiskey, but I do not like this whiskey at a $90 price point. To me, this is a $60 bottle. But there are other factors to consider such as the blend consists of a mere 25 barrels of grain to glass product. I can appreciate the fact that Redwood is trying to produce their own distillate while also trying to give its fan base a special release, and if this is the release, I will call it a win!
